The taste of the soup

Even if for a lifetime
the fool stays with the wise,
he knows nothing of the Dhamma —
as the spoon,
the taste of the soup.

Even if for a moment,
the perceptive person stays with the wise,
he immediately knows the Dhamma —
as the tongue,
the taste of the soup.

Yes, and the taste of the soup can appear so bitter (dukkha), but in being mindful of it as it rests on the tongue, out of that bitterness comes a sweetness that's beyond compare (jhana)!

Thank for another thought-provoking post, Piyal. And Happy New Year, too.

I love this analogy of the spoon and the soup in the soup bowl. It does drive the point home,oh,so effectively, doesn't it?

You are so right...

It is a very effective.

I often use this when I meet a person with great "hunger" for Dhamma...just to encourage them even further..

It really works!
